August 13 - We've been released!

He's very sore, and he's walking like I did at 9 months pregnant, but he's left the hospital! We'll probably stay in New Hampshire one more night and drive home in the morning.

Tim will stay in the hospital until tomorrow; he continues to improve every hour.

  1. You know, it's one thing to marvel in the abstract that you are going to have another person's kidney inside your body.

It is ineffably, unfathomably greater to feel the changes it is working inside you by the hour. To realize this nap you're waking from, this chicken nugget you're eating, this sunset reflected on an abandoned construction site you're seeing -- all the grand and tiny moments that make up a day or a life, are because of a gift that someone felt worth giving to you.

It's not something you can walk around with easily, even if the 18 staples in your side were inclined to let you.
